Knowing Tao

Knowing Tao is a study or learning application for the ancient Chinese text, Tao Te Ching. Tao Te Ching is filled with words of wisdom. But it is not an ordinary book which can simply be read from first page to last and then put aside. It is meant to be read, re-read, pondered and studied. This is where this application tool comes in handy. It's features such as favourites and journal entry will definitely help the casual as well as the serious student of this ancient text.

Symbolism of Yin-Yang

Picture
Inter-play of Yin & Yang
The Yin-Yang symbolism is quite interesting. Yin is the black side with the white dot and the Yang is the white side with the black dot on it. The relationship between them is typically described in terms of a mountain and valley illuminated by the sunlight.

Yin, which literally means the ‘shady place’ or ‘north slope’ is the dark area of the valley, a receptacle or receiving energy and is thus darker in quality. Yang which literally means the ‘sunny place’ or ‘south slope’ is the mountain, the protruding more outward energy form and also the brightly lit portion of the symbol.

In their dynamic aspect, Yin and Yang symbolize that they truly compliment and completely merge in each other- to create all of creation. Here, Yin represents the primal female energy and Yang, the primal male energy. The interplay of this male and female primal energy creates everything in this manifested, material world of form and spirit.

Sun, which represents the source of light (the Divine Spirit or the essence of Tao) illuminates this creation and the constant play of Yin and Yang.

So Yin is associated with water, earth, moon, feminine and night-time and Yang is associated with fire, sky, sun, masculine and day-time. Using more modern terminology, it is the forces of the anima and the animus that exists in all of creation. - This article written by Maitreyi
